Police once again raid Appian Way massage parlors in sex trafficking investigation

EL SOBRANTE — In what should come as little surprise to anyone paying attention, police raided two massage parlors on Appian Way as part of an investigation into sex trafficking in both locations, authorities said.

One of the locations, in the 4400 block of Appian Way, has been the subject of at least four separate sting operations since 2018, and each of them resulted in either a “masseuse” offering sexual services to an undercover police officer, or to a police raid where incriminating evidence was seized. The other location, located in the 400 block of Appian Way, was also the subject of a prostitution investigation in 2021, according to police and court records.

This last investigation was twofold; Police raided both locations in February, then went to the home of Hayward, a person suspected of being involved in operating one of the brothels, where police seized more than 9,000 $ in cash, authorities said.

Both brothels were raided after undercover officers visited both sites and were allegedly solicited by sex workers. In one case, a woman actually took the undercover agent’s hands and placed them on her breasts, then demanded a $60 tip for her massage, authorities said.

In 2022, police seized an assault rifle from the living room in the 4400 block of Appian Way, after a similar undercover investigation. In 2021, a masseuse from the same location offered sexual services to an undercover agent, who refused them. In 2018, an undercover agent was given a condom and quoted a price for sex on the premises, authorities said.

The man suspected of running the massage parlor has ties to other alleged brothels in the Bay Area and is under investigation for allegedly promoting prostitution in Texas, authorities said.

The salon in the 400 block of Appian Way was also investigated, in 2021, after a man reported that a masseuse performed a sexual act after a massage, which he told police he didn’t want to, authorities said.
