Ottawa, Ontario (AP) – The Canadian Parliament Security Force locked up parliament on Saturday after a man barricaded himself in the East Block section, Ottawa police announced.
The parliamentary protection service issued a warning on Saturday afternoon for anyone at East Block, which houses parliamentary offices, to look for a shelter in the nearest room, close and lock all the doors and hide.
Anyone who was not in the immediate area was warned to stay away until further notice.
A Ottawa police ‘social media post said that a “barricaded man was in the East Block zone” and urged people to avoid the region, noting that there was no injury report.
There was a strong police presence in the region and an important section of Wellington Street, which takes place in front of the hill of the Parliament, was completed.
Parliament is not in session because Canada is in the midst of an electoral campaign.
