Police investigate teacher for saying 9/11 terrorists were Muslim

A teacher was referred to the police for mentioning that the 9/11 terrorists were Muslims.

The teacher’s remarks, worded in zany terms, were aimed at disparaging Muslim pupils who had heckled Khakan Qureshi, a speaker who had been invited to the school to talk about his experience as a Muslim and gay.

Qureshi said ‘diehard’ pupils at Wood Green Academy in Wednesdaybury in the West Midlands ‘keep saying you can’t be gay and Muslim because that contradicts the Koran’, and were later given death threats, according to Mail.

A teacher at the school, where around half of the pupils are Muslim due to rapid demographic change in the West Midlands, tried to take them to task over Qureshi’s treatment – but only ended up being targeted – same.

“We live in a diverse and tolerant country. We are tolerant towards different religions. Twenty-one years ago, a group of Muslims blew up planes against buildings, killing thousands of people. At that point, people stood up and said, ‘No, we shouldn’t condemn Muslims for what a few have done’, he argued, scolding the students for the hostile reception of Qureshi.

“[W]We are a tolerant society, which means that we may not like certain things that you say, but you have the right to say them,” he insisted.

Ironically, since the teacher argued that all Muslims should not be blamed for the radical Islamic terrorist attacks of 9/11, he was the subject of a complaint signed by “hundreds of students and parents”. the attacker for linking the Muslims to the attack. according to Mail.

“Why did he use the word Muslims as opposed to terrorists? He linked terrorism directly to Muslims and Islam,” the complaint stated – as if the 9/11 terrorists were not in fact Islamic extremists.

“His tone is extremely aggressive and I have a hard time understanding how that is considered appropriate behavior,” he continued.

Clandestine videos of the teacher’s comments, taken and released by students, even prompted the intervention of law enforcement.

Rather than dismissing the incident as clearly not a criminal matter, West Midlands Police, known for repeatedly dropping victims of predominantly Muslim grooming gangs, said they were “working with the school and reviewed the content of the videos”.

They also investigate abuse and threats towards Qureshi.
