Berlin – German police in a spa city on Sunday north of Francfurt widens a man’s hunt for a suspect still in freedom after two people were killed one day earlier.
Police in the Hesse region said that the two victims had been shot in a residential area in Bad Nauheim, about 35 kilometers (about 22 miles) north of Frankfurt, and a reason was not immediately known. The authorities did not immediately identify the victims.
The German news agency DPA reported that a police spokesman had cited evidence pointing to a single author, but that the authorities could not exclude the possibility that others could have been involved.
According to Hessenschau, a regional publication linked to a public broadcaster, a large police contingent was deployed after the shots on Saturday, and local residents indicated that special forces had been sent to the site, as well as emergency vehicles and a police helicopter.
