Portland police have identified Shamesha Danaee Allen, 45, of Portland, as the woman fatally shot Saturday evening in the Glenfair neighborhood of Northeast Portland.
Officers arrested a suspect, Donnell L. Watson, 43, of Gresham, who was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on Sunday on charges of first-degree manslaughter and felon in possession of a firearm.
Allen’s death marked the 65th homicide in Portland so far this year, compared to 91 at the same time last year, a record year for homicides in the city.
Twelve women have been killed so far this year in Portland, and all but two of the seven most recent homicide victims were women.
Despite the recent increase, the percentage of female homicide victims so far this year — 18 percent — is in line with last year’s figure, when 18 of 101 homicide victims were female.
