Police arrest Lynn man on ‘multiple assault charges’ after attacks

Local

Police say he started an argument with an elderly woman and then assaulted two male passengers.

MBTA Transit police have arrested a Lynn man who is charged with assaulting two passengers on a Blue Line train, according to a statement released Saturday.

Omar Singhateh, 29, of Lynn, was arrested on “multiple assault charges”, officials said.

Police were called to the MBTA’s Aquarium station for a disturbance at 10:41 a.m. Thursday, the statement said.

Police said they were told Singhateh started an argument with an elderly woman on the train because she was looking at him “strangely”.

Singhateh became increasingly aggressive with the elderly woman, the statement said, and two passengers tried to intervene to calm Singhateh down.

Police said Singhateh attacked the two passengers – punching and kicking a 60-year-old man and then hitting a 31-year-old man who tried to stop the assault.

Both victims reported Singhateh to police on the platform and officers took him into custody, police said.

No other information was immediately available.
