Police are investigating what caused the van to fly onto the elevated south side carriageway

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police are unable to clarify what caused a driver to lose control on an elevated freeway entrance street and crash, sending his van crashing into the train tracks below.

They obtained a name regarding the accident just before 5:30 a.m. Thursday and located damage to the railing on the SE Loop 410 entrance street near S. Presa Street. Then they saw the truck below, lying on its roof on the train tracks under this elevated street.

When officers reached the overturned automobile, they found the person inside was dead.

Based on injuries at the scene, it appears the pickup smashed through the guardrail before falling and hitting the embankment at least once on the way down.

Members of SAPD’s Traffic Investigations Division spent quite a bit of time gathering evidence at the scene.

During the investigation, all visitors to the rail site in this space were cut off.

A prep can very well be seen sitting on the rails some half a mile down the street.

Police were unable to immediately provide details of the driving force.

They say it will be up to the Bexar County medical examiner’s office to establish that.
