Poland says it was also targeted by Russian hackers – POLITICO

Poland said it was also “among the targets” of the Russian-controlled hacker group that attacked Germany and the Czech Republic.

“Poland stands in solidarity with Germany and Czechia following the malicious cyber campaign against their political parties and democratic institutions,” the Polish Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Friday.

The German government announced Friday that email accounts belonging to officials in German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s party had been compromised following an attack by the hacker group APT28, or Fancy Bear. The group is part of the Russian military intelligence service GRU.

The Czech government also issued a statement supporting Germany’s claims, saying its intelligence services had detected Fancy Bear intrusions into Czech institutions around the same time.

“Poland, also being among the targets of APT 28, strongly condemns the repetitive and unacceptable malicious cyber campaigns carried out by Russian actors,” the statement said. The Foreign Office provided no further details about the attack.
