Pokémon developer Game Freak recently released the Mega Dimension DLC, so what happens beyond that? In case you missed it when it was revealed last year, the studio has a new action RPG Reincarnation Beast in the pipeline.
In an update this week, it was revealed that we’ll hear more about this during the upcoming Xbox Developer Direct showcase, which takes place later this month. January 22, 2026. This latest stream from Xbox promises to give fans an “insider look at not only the games” but also “the studios that work to bring them to life.”
“We’ll also take a trip to Tokyo to visit the legendary Game Freak and provide an in-depth first look at Reincarnation Beastwhich we revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase last year.”
So while there aren’t necessarily any Nintendo-related announcements here, we could at least take a look at the inner workings of Game Freak and how it develops new projects.
For now, Beast of Reincarnation will be released on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC and Game Pass. It was officially revealed in June 2025 (just days after the Switch 2 launched) and is published by Fictions and directed by Kota Furushima – a Game Freak employee who worked on the battle system and sound in previous versions of Pokémon.
Beasts of Reincarnation is described as “a sprawling one-person, one-dog action RPG built around technically demanding combat.” Here is a slightly more detailed description and the trailer from last June:
“In a post-apocalyptic Japan, a land ruined by corruption and teeming with monstrous beasts, humanity’s last hope may lie with Emma, an outcast cursed as a Cursed One, and Koo, her faithful canine companion. Survive a journey through a threatening and ever-changing world where dangerous forests can erupt in the wastelands. As Emma and Koo move deeper into the unknown, their bond strengthens and with it, strange powers blossom.“
Although Game Freak has mainly focused on big Pokémon projects over the years, between these releases it has worked on its own unique titles. During the Switch generation, it released games such as Little Town Hero across multiple platforms and even relaunched Pocket Card Jockey.
As for its latest DLC Pokémon Mega Dimension, it’s not bad, but like the base game, it lacks the freedom of the main series.
