Bidding an emotional farewell to the old Parliament building, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid special tribute to all the support staff of Parliament.
“A lot of people served us tea and water. During the night sessions of Parliament, they ensured that legislators did not leave on empty stomachs. They responded to our needs and shouldered various forms of responsibilities,” Modi said during the special session of Parliament.
“From maintaining the gardens to keeping the house clean, countless people have ensured that we can work without any hindrance. I thank all these people on behalf of the Chamber,” he added.
“Saying goodbye to this building is an emotional moment… There are many bittersweet memories associated with it. We have all witnessed differences and conflicts in Parliament, but at the same time, we have witnessed ‘Parivaar bhaav’,” PM Modi said while opening the debate on the first day of the special session.

The special session of Parliament began in the old Parliament building, after which it will be shifted to the new building on September 19 on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.
“Before Independence, this Parliament was the place of the imperial legislative council. After independence, it acquired the identity of Sansad Bhawan. While it is true that the construction of this building was the decision of foreign leaders, we can never forget and can proudly say that the sweat, hard work and money used to build it came from my countrymen,” Prime Minister Modi said in Lok Sabha. .
Recalling his first days in Parliament, he said: “When I first entered this building (Parliament) as an MP, I prostrated myself and honored the temple of democracy. It was an emotional moment for me. I could never have imagined that a child from a poor family, living on the station platform, could one day enter Parliament. I never imagined I would receive so much love from people.
