PM Modi too has targeted the Congress party by ignoring Arunachal Pradesh and the North Eastern region for decades.
Speaking at a public rally in Itanagar, PM Modi claimed that previous Congress-led governments considered the state politically insignificant.
“Parties like Congress thought that there are so few people and only two seats in the Lok Sabha, so why pay attention to Arunachal? This mindset of the Congress has caused great harm to Arunachal and the entire North East. The BJP has freed India from the mindset of the Congress,” he said.
The prime minister pointed to the past with what he described as increased engagement under the BJP regime. “As Prime Minister, I have come to the Northeast more than 70 times. I love the Northeast from the bottom of my heart, and that is why we have erased the distance from the heart and brought Delhi closer to you,” PM Modi added.
He also highlighted financial allocations, noting that under the Congress, Arunachal Pradesh had received only about ₹6,000 crore in central taxes in ten years, as the BJP-led government transferred nearly ₹1 lakh crore in the last decade.
“In other words, the BJP government has given Arunachal 16 times more funds,” he said.
Launch of hydroelectric and connectivity projects
PM Modi laid the foundation stones of two major hydropower projects in Shi Yomi district and a convention center in Tawang.
The cost of the 186 MW Tato-I project is estimated ₹1,750 crore and is expected to generate around 802 million units of electricity annually. The 240 MW Heo project should be worth ₹1,939 crore and is expected to produce nearly 1,000 million units every year, according to news agency PTI.
The two projects are to be jointly developed by the Arunachal Pradesh government and the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) on the Yarjep river.
The Prime Minister also launched work on a convention center in Tawang, which will be constructed under the PM-DevINE program in ₹145.37 crore with a seating capacity of over 1,500 people.
In addition, projects worth more than ₹1,290 crore towards connectivity, health and fire safety have also been launched.
Tripura visit of PM Modi
The Prime Minister also visited the northeastern state of Tripura and inaugurated the redeveloped Tripureswari temple in Gomati district.
PM Modi also offered prayers at the temple shrine built by ‘Maharaja’ Dhanya Manikya in 1501.
The temple, over 500 years old, is one of the 51 ‘Shakti Peethas’ and was redeveloped under the Centre’s PRASAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive) program at a cost of ₹52 crore, according to PTI.
