Prime Minister Narendra on Tuesday filed his nomination from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Prime Minister Modi was accompanied by 12 chief ministers, Union ministers Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh and other key players of the National Democratic Alliance.

The temple town of Varanasi was fully decorated ahead of Prime Minister Modi’s candidature process.

Before filing his nomination paper, the Prime Minister visited the Kaal Bhairav ​​​​temple and offered prayers at the Dasaswamedh Ghat.

Varanasi is one of the 80 constituencies of Uttar Pradesh. A stronghold of the BJP, the city will go to polls on June 1 in the seventh phase of the Lok Sabha elections.

The constituency will witness a closely watched contest between Prime Minister Modi of the BJP, Ajay Rai of the Congress and Athar Jamal Lari of the Bahujan Samajwadi Party. Notably, Shyam Rangeela, the comedian-turned-politician widely known for his impersonation of Prime Minister Modi, will also contest against the Prime Minister as an independent candidate.

Varanasi constituency comprises five assembly segments: Rohaniya, Varanasi North, Varanasi South, Varanasi Cantt and Sevapuri.

In the previous elections, Prime Minister Modi had won a landslide victory in the city, garnering 674,664 votes with a margin of 479,505.
