Gandhinagar:

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Saturday that a maritime security policy had been adopted by the Prime Minister Modi-led government to make the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, maritime police, customs and fishermen a complete “Sudarshan Chakra” of the security ring. for India.

Mr Shah’s remarks came after he laid the foundation stone for the permanent campus of the National Academy of Coastal Policing (NACP) at Dwarka in Gujarat, which will be constructed at a cost of Rs 470 crore.

“On the high seas, security is provided by Indian Navy ships and aircraft. Security is provided by the Indian Navy and Coast Guard on the middle seas, and in territorial waters by the Aquatic Wing of the Force Border Security (BSF), while the patriotic fishermen in the village ensure the security of the country by serving as a channel of information,” Shah said.

The Minister said that on all these dimensions, the Government of India has adopted a well-coordinated coastal security policy and worked to secure the country’s coastlines through an integrated approach.

He said “our country has suffered many consequences due to neglect in coastal security”.

“No patriotic citizen can forget the 2008 Mumbai attack in which 166 innocent lives were lost due to a slight mistake.”

He said that after the coastal security policy developed by the Prime Minister Modi-led government, if the enemy tries to commit such incidents, he will get an appropriate response from here.

Mr. Shah said that this training is very important for that.

The Union Home Secretary said that this coastal security policy is based on several pillars.

“This includes coordination and communication on coastal security and intelligence, joint coastal patrols by establishing patrol protocols at fixed intervals, safety of fishermen, handing over 10 lakh Aadhaar cards with QR codes to fishermen , the guarantee of safety devices at 1,537 fish entry points and safety in all fishing ports built for the blue economy.”

He said that by adding all these things, an impregnable fort for coastal security has been established by the government led by Prime Minister Modi.

Mr Shah said that “during the tenure of the previous government, Porbandar prison had to be closed after issuing a notification and Porbandar had become the center of all kinds of thefts”.

He said that since the arrival of the government led by Prime Minister Modi, the prison started again and the thieves fled from here.

He said Prime Minister Modi has secured Gujarat whether it is land border of Kutch, Sir Creek, Haraminala or sea coast of Porbandar, or sea coast of Dwarka-Okha-Jamnagar-Salaya.

Mr. Shah said that today, keeping all the state governments together, Narendra Modi, as the country’s prime minister, has established this training academy here to secure the sea coasts of the country.

Several dignitaries including the Union Home Secretary and the Director General of the Border Security Force attended the occasion.

In his remarks, Mr. Shah also said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the work of the National Coastal Police Academy has started today on more than 450 acres of land to further enhance coastal security.

He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the security of the country and the country’s borders have been enhanced and the citizens of the country feel safe.

Mr. Shah said that to strengthen border security, it is necessary that the living and working conditions of our border guards improve, that they have advanced equipment and take care of the health of the members. of their family.

He said the central government under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi spared no effort in these three areas and tried to provide all kinds of advanced facilities and equipment to our security forces.

The Union Home Minister said that recently the Indian Navy and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), with the help of Indian intelligence agencies, seized drugs worth Rs 12,000 crores off the coast of Kerala.

He said while drugs worth Rs 680 crore had been seized during the 10 year rule of the previous government, Indian security agencies seized drugs worth Rs 12,000 crore in one shipment, which shows the preparedness of our agencies.

Mr. Shah said that if a country’s borders are not secure, development is meaningless. He said a country can only stay safe through ironclad security of its borders.

Mr Shah said India has a 15,000 km long land border and a 7,516 km long sea border. He said that out of the 7,516 km long sea border, 5,422 km is the mainland border and more than 2,000 km is the border of the islands. There are 1,382 islands, 3,337 coastal villages, 11 major ports, 241 non-major ports and 135 establishments including space, defence, atomic energy, oil and shipping.

He said that previously there was no special training system for all such security personnel but after the Mumbai terrorist attack in 2008 the need for consistent response from jawans at each police station coast, border security and coastguards has made itself felt.

Mr Shah said this is only possible when coastal security training is organized in a planned manner.

He said that in 2018 Prime Minister Modi endorsed the National Coastal. “Today, through the imagination of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the entire nation’s coastal security training is conducted in Okha, the land of Lord Shri Krishna.”

Mr Shah said the total number of Coast Police personnel across the country is around 12,000 and once this academy is fully operational, arrangements will be made for the training of 3,000 personnel in one year.

“In this way, within four years, 100% training of all personnel involved in India’s coastal security will be completed,” he said.

He said that due to the vision and determination of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, an important task to ensure coastal security was launched today.

The Minister said that at a cost of about 56 Crores, five different BSF Company outposts and one 18th Corps observation post tower were inaugurated today and our vigilant guards stationed at the border will be able to live here with convenience and keep the country safe.

He further said that the people of the country are sleeping peacefully and consider the country safe as the BSF is deployed at the border.
