Plymouth County man charged in fatal overdose of infant son

Donald Humes is charged with murder after his son died of an acute methadone overdose in April 2022, the district attorney said.

Two years after a toddler died from a methadone overdose, his father has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office said.

Donald Humes, 32 of Onset, is charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter and two counts of reckless endangerment of a child following a “lengthy” and “extensive” investigation into the death of his son, officials said in a statement. Press release. Her child, Cameron Humes, 2, had methadone in his system, according to the release.

Hames called Wareham police on April 24, 2022, telling them that Cameron was unresponsive and not breathing in their Waban Avenue home, according to the release.

First responders performed lifesaving procedures on Cameron before he was transported to Tobey Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined Cameron’s manner of death was acute methadone intoxication, according to the prosecutor’s office.

The investigation of the case was conducted by the Wareham Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police.
