Pleasant conditions to precede potential severe weather – NBC Chicago

The Chicago area will get a taste of summer this weekend with the arrival of a spectacular warm-up and plenty of sunshine.

Friday, however, started on a much colder note.

The area initially experienced temperatures of 40 degrees, gusty winds and periods of showers throughout the morning and afternoon. In the evening the rain began to let up and readings were in the mid 50s.

Temperatures will likely rise significantly Saturday, giving way to beautiful weather and sunny skies, according to NBC 5 Storm Team meteorologists. Clear skies will persist throughout the day as temperatures climb into the 70s.

Although the weather is clear, a few clouds could pass through overnight before dissipating early Sunday.

After that, prepare for the hottest temperatures of the weekend.

Readings will hover just below 80 degrees on Sunday. It will be very warm in the morning, but noticeably cooler as the day progresses.

As the evening arrives, a cold front will drop temperatures for a brief period.

Temperatures could drop as low as 30 degrees, into the 40s, along the lakeshore.

Luckily, things won’t stay this cold for a while. The work week will bring a return of 70-degree temperatures and some sunshine, meteorologists said.

Monday will see a high of 71 degrees and the chance of thunderstorms late in the evening. Areas along the shores of Lake Michigan, meanwhile, can expect temperatures between 50 and 60 degrees, according to meteorologists.

But the main problem will not arrive until the next day.

A warm front expected to arrive early Tuesday could bring potentially severe showers and thunderstorms. You’ll want to keep an umbrella handy, as several waves of rain and storms are possible.

Then we will take a brief break.

The other risk of potentially severe weather will arrive at the opposite end of the same front, meteorologists say. This series of storms could arrive from overnight into early Wednesday.
