System specifications for the PlayStation 6 and next-gen Xbox have reportedly been finalized, and Microsoft’s next console is expected to consistently deliver better performance than Sony’s system, according to a known leaker.
The rumors originate from the NeoGAF forums, where KeplerL2, a known AMD leaker with a solid track record, commented on the recently leaked specs of the PS6 and so-called Xbox Magnus, claiming that they have been finalized, corroborating information shared by YouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead.
With these leaked specs in mind, the insider doesn’t see how the PlayStation 6 can compete with the Xbox Magnus, as it has fewer CPU cores, lower CPU frequency, fewer CUs (computing units), fewer ROPs (rendering output units), lower GPU frequency, less cache, and memory bandwidth. The difference isn’t huge, but it’s big enough that Microsoft’s next-gen system is expected to deliver better performance in 100% of games, unlike this generation. Sony’s system, however, should still have plenty of AI power, as it should be capable of around 1,200 TOPs (Trillion Operations Per Second), a huge jump from the PS5 Pro’s 300 TOPs.
The insider also commented on the RAM the PlayStation 6, PlayStation Handheld, and Xbox Magnus will likely have – 30, 24, and 36 GB, respectively. For both home systems, this would be a considerable jump from the 16GB of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series
Interestingly enough, it appears that Sony will be the only company to offer two systems with different specifications for the next generation. According to KeplerL2, a low-end Xbox Magnus model is possible, but nothing in the reviewed documentation suggests this is going to happen.
Although KeplerL2 has proven itself to be one of the most reliable sources of computer hardware information in recent years, we have to take what they revealed with a huge grain of salt. However, given that the PlayStation 6 and Xbox Magnus are aiming for 2027, it probably won’t take much longer to learn more about Sony and Microsoft’s next-gen systems.
