GTA 6
Last week, Fortnite presented an AI Dark Vader using the voice of James Earl Jones to respond to the players’ vocal chat. It was amusing clumsy (and in accordance with the right -wing Jones’ rights agreement), but AI does not start to make the big nervous publishers for several reasons.
Jason Schreier has an excellent article on Bloomberg Soulies in evidence that recent reports of large companies like EA and Take-Two have addressed the problem, like others like CDPR.
On its surface, it seems that Genai could be used as a tool in the games to produce works of art themselves, a play of voice or even elements of play. But these companies begin to achieve the very real risks that this poses, both legally and “reputation”.
Take-Two says that using AI “presents social and ethical problems that can lead to legal and reputation damage and responsibility.
EA echoes something similar, claiming that using AI “can lead to legal and reputation damage”, which would make players “lose confidence in our business and to our brands”.
We have already heard aspects of this in the past, of the favorite CDPR developer of fans, who said: “The use of GAI raises many legal concerns, including the lack of protection of DPIs for the content on which GAI relys, or a potential involuntary offense of DPIs.”

So there are two problems here.
1) The legality of the Genai is still in flow. Yes, the large technological companies from Google to Meta in Openai explode their models on all internet work, the work protected by the copyright they do not have. A number of content producers, from New York Times to musicians and actors, continue various services and there are not yet firm decisions about what can or cannot be used with Genai.
The problem here would therefore be that if you use AI assets in the game, and decisions become that all this is now illegal, you will have to reshape large parts of your game, or even risk legal action yourself if you were wrapped with all these other entities.
2) The “reputation damage” is a very real thing with the players at the moment. When a game is discovered to use Genai, it is roasted online and the players judge it “soils” and sometimes say that they will boycott a game because of this. Attach Genai to your games, which is at this stage, not difficult to spot, and you risk associating this brand with technology that everyone hates, including many developers who make these games, such as artists or writers who have their work replaced by “Slold”.
Dark Vader
Even with cases like Dark Vader Ai in Fortnite, which East Approved and authorized by the family of James Earl Jones, how does it affect the actors of the video game voice, and there is already a strike that takes place where the attempted license to integrate is a basic problem.
There may be an aspect of AI more generally to help development more technical, but Genai to create art or vocal work is an entirely different category and something which, to date, has been refused by players to the point that this kind of thing must make its way in financial relationships. This reminds me of the whole web3 / NFT craze which then turned into a crazy Metaveverse, then they were all dead because … the players wanted none of this.
AI as a whole already reshapes the world, but maybe players can keep this wall so that it does not turn into video games.
