PLAYER RATINGS: Stylish Martin Odegaard pulled the strings and Kai Havertz shone – but one Gunners star ‘struggled with pace’ in 3-0 win over Bournemouth

  • Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard scored both goals to beat Bournemouth

Arsenal emerged victorious from their Premier League clash against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon, beating the Cherries 3-0 at home.

The Gunners also paid tribute to young Arsenal fan Daniel Anjorin with a round of applause after the 14-year-old was murdered in a stabbing attack in east London.

Bukayo Saka opened the scoring in the 45th minute from the penalty spot before Leandro Trossard extended his lead in the 70th and Declan Rice closed it out in added time.

However, it was Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard who pulled the strings throughout the match.

ARSENAL (4-3-3):

DAVID RAYA: 6

It looked like a quiet game for him until the second half. I was lucky, Antoine Semenyo’s goal was canceled for a foul on him during the preparation. It was sweet.

BEN WHITE: 6.5

He couldn’t use his cornering shenanigans as Bournemouth had done their homework, moving him away from the goal line. Some nice passes forward.

WILLIAM SALIBA: 7

A mistake made in defense after 17 minutes could have been costly. But otherwise he was very solid in defensive duels.

GABRIEL: 6.5

He saved Saliba by raking up his mistake in defense. A strike screamer was ruled out for offside.

TAKEHIRO TOMIYASU: 7

Solid display. Semenyo struggled to pass him. Gives Arsenal that solidity at left back as he is defensive minded.

MARTIN ODEGAARD: 8.5

I pulled the strings everywhere. After 38 minutes, Kai Havertz delivered a good cross that should have resulted in a goal. Also provided Havertz with an unreal ball in the second half.

THOMAS PARTEY: 6

I struggled with the pace in the latter stages, but a good display.

RICE DECLAN: 8

Great spatial awareness to set Leandro Trossard’s goal. Tried his best to gain access to advanced positions, thereby adding to his defensive duties. I scored a goal at the end.

BUKAYO SAKA: 7

Received a terribly high challenge from Ryan Christie that left a bad mark on him. He got up, scored a penalty and stayed involved in the game.

KAI HAVERTZ: 8.5

Was involved in many of Arsenal’s best sequences. Whether it’s continuing the play, taking shots on goal or trying to set up others.

LÉANDRO TROSSARD: 7

He scores again. Calm throughout the match but when the opportunities present themselves, he does not weaken.

Manager – MIKEL ARTETA: 6.5

His team should have scored more in the first half to reduce the pressure at the end of the match, even if in the end they had the upper hand in the match.

Referee – DAVID COOTE: 5.5

The decision to award Havertz a penalty was marginal. The challenge on Raya which ruled out Bournemouth’s goal was gentle.
