PLAYER RATINGS: Bukayo Saka’s performance hampered Arsenal in their Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich while another Gunners striker earned just a 5.5/10 rating.

Arsenal crashed out of the Champions League at the hands of Bayern Munich on Wednesday night, as Joshua Kimmich’s second-half header gave the German giants a 3-2 aggregate win at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern, who conceded the Bundesliga crown to Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend after winning 11 consecutive top-flight titles, kept their hopes of winning a major trophy alive by booking their place in the Champions League semi-finals to the alongside fellow German Borussia Dortmund.

Arsenal fought hard after falling behind in the 63rd minute, but struggled to produce clear chances, as Mikel Arteta started Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah in search of an equalizer.

Here, Mail Sport’s ISAAN KHAN assesses both teams’ performances on a huge Champions League night.

Bayern Munich (4-2-3-1)

Manuel Neuer – 6

He collected crosses superbly throughout the match and made saves that one might have expected to make. Has not been sufficiently tested.

Joshua Kimmich – 7.5

Showed positivity to break into the box and give Bayern the lead with an excellent header. He proved to be a key leader for Munich that night.

Matthijs De Ligt – 6.5

Defended brilliantly alongside central partner Dier to minimize Arsenal’s chances.

Eric Dier – 6.5

An organized and targeted demonstration against its old rivals. More than rewarded Tuchel’s confidence in him.

Noussair Mazraoui – 7

Kept Saka unusually quiet, dealing superbly with the England winger when he cut onto his left foot.

Leon Goretzka – 7

Unlucky not to give Bayern the lead with his header on the post and worked tirelessly to keep Odegaard and Jorginho quiet. A mature and intelligent performance.

Pulling ahead of Gabriel Martinelli, Kimmich burst into the box late on to give Bayern the lead.

Leon Goretzka put in another superb performance and was unlucky not to score with a header.

Konrad Laimer – 7.5

Odegaard was left extremely frustrated by a relentless display in midfield. He continued to chain the Arsenal midfielder even after earning a booking.

Leroy Sané – 6

Looked dangerous in the first half but wasted a huge chance at 1-0 to put the game beyond Arsenal.

Jamal Musiala – 7.5

Bayern’s brightest spark on the night, dazzling the Arsenal midfield with quick feet and intricate passing. I should have made it 2-0 with a good chance towards the end.

Raphael Guerreiro – 6

Produced a glorious cross for Kimmich’s opener after a quiet first half on the left wing. He also had a few floppy moments while covering for the injured Gnabry.

Harry Kane – 6.5

Had few scoring opportunities but linked up well with Musiala and Sane. Showed how he can still affect a game without clear chances.

Kim Min Jae – 6

Director:

Thomas Tuchel – 7

His defensive tactics were perfect against Arsenal after conceding twice in the first leg. Kept control of possession without overloading players up front.

Arsenal (4-3-3)

David Raya – 6

Saved by the post twice in the same game in 47 minutes. Not at fault for the goal conceded.

Ben White – 6

Composed in defense but didn’t have much success overlapping forward, which he is often so effective at.

Guillaume Saliba – 6

Physically fought with Harry Kane. A fair display.

Gabriel Magalhaes – 6

Almost turned the ball into his own net in the 57th minute. But I held on.

Takehiro Tomiyasu – 7

Made a difference at left back. The opposition had difficulty penetrating their flank.

Declan rice – 7.5

Solid both in defense and attack. He protected his backline with some crunching tackles, while constantly trying to move the ball forward.

Jorginho – 6.5

Some well executed tackles and a good foil for the central defenders behind him.

Martin Odegaard – 6.5

A workaholic, as usual. Put Bayern’s backline under pressure with this pressing and give Gabriel Martinelli a great chance to score.

Bukayo Saka-5.5

Was deprived of the ball for much of the match. When he got it, he couldn’t break through Bayern’s defense. This hampered his team.

Gabriel Martinelli – 6

Moments of clever footwork. I should have done better in the 31st minute, shooting straight at Manuel Neuer.

Kai Havertz – 5.5

He was not able to play the game in his usual way.

Substitutes:

Gabriel Jesus – 6

I got the call just left. Will definitely have wanted more from his wide men.

Nothing controversial. The game went well.
