Play Ryan Mason and get the over-70s involved – Jamie O’Hara and Tottenham fans joke about cunning plan to deny Arsenal a first Premier League title

Jamie O’Hara has joked that Tottenham should play Ryan Mason against Manchester City to prevent Arsenal from winning the title.

Arsenal face Manchester United on Sunday night and if they win they will sit top and could be crowned champions a week later.

On Tuesday, Spurs host City, who are currently first but only two points separate them from the Gunners with two to play.

Victory for the north London side would keep Pep Guardiola’s men second going into the final day of the season, with the title out of their hands.

This would therefore be an opportunity for Arsenal to go all the way and win the coveted trophy, with the help of their bitter rivals.

But former Spurs player O’Hara doesn’t want that to happen, even if it boosts their hopes of finishing in the top four, and has had an idea on how to possibly help City win on Tuesday.

“I would play Ryan Mason in midfield,” he joked during the GameDay Phone-In of the idea of Spurs helping Arsenal win the Premier League.

Mason currently works as an assistant to Ange Postecoglou after retiring in 2018 due to a head injury.

So he’s not eligible to play, but another Spurs fan had a different idea, with O’Hara himself entering into his thinking.

Daz, a Tottenham fan, called into the show and humorously suggested: “I’d actually ask Jamie to play for this game because I want the worst team to come out, so we’re absolutely getting slapped in the face!

“I don’t want us to win, I would put every player over 70 in this team.”

He added: “We’re going to beat them, I know it will happen because we’re that kind of team, but I don’t want that to happen, I want us to lose.”

O’Hara further explained his reasoning on why Spurs winning and potentially securing Champions League football may not be the best outcome.

“I don’t know if this team is ready to play in the Champions League. I think he (Postecoglou) needs more next season, I think he still needs to build.

“We’re still giving away goals, the set pieces aren’t good, I still think he needs another season. Get the Champions League? Great, but we’re not going to win it, aren’t we? is this not ?

“We are not going to win it, we are going to be eliminated but with the Europa League we have a chance.”
