Plano, Illinois DMV gets redesign to make it more ‘efficient’ – NBC Chicago

A DMV location in Illinois is undergoing an “efficiency-driven redesign” in an effort to streamline services and shorten lines.

According to a press release from Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias, the Secretary of State’s Plano facility, located at 236 Mitchell Drive in Kendall County, will benefit from a new “one-stop-shop” DMV design “. The new design is intended to “provide a more customer-centric, professional and efficient experience,” the release said.

The new design will enable customers to get more services at one stop, the release said. These services include applying for a REAL ID or new driver’s license or state ID card; renew a driver’s license, state identification card, or temporary visitor’s driver’s license; order a new license plate; register or renew the registration of a vehicle; and register to become an organ and tissue donor.

More information about the new experience is expected to be announced at a press conference Tuesday morning. The effort comes after Giannoulias urged residents not to go to the DMV unless absolutely necessary.

Earlier this year, Giannoulias announced expanded online services for the “Skip the Line, Do it Online” program to save taxpayers time and reduce historically long lines at the driver and motor vehicle service facilities.

“I’m serious. Don’t come unless you’re 100 percent sure you have to visit one of our facilities,” Giannoulias said at a news conference in Chicago in January. “The reason is obvious. Most people don’t need to go to a DMV facility to get what they need.
