Pittsburgh pirates have reversed the course on the decision to withdraw from PNC a sign honoring the late fame of fame and the legend of the Roberto Clemente franchise in order to make room for advertising space. The pirates’ response comes after Clement’s son Roberto Clemente Jr. criticized the club for the decision.
Clemente Jr. noticed the change, which replaced the sign with an ad for surfed alcoholic beverages, when it was highlighted on social networks:
On Sunday, Clemente Jr. said he was “shocked” by change:
“Yesterday, I was shocked to learn that the sign Clement 21 – A tribute to my father on the wall of the PNC park field in Pittsburgh – had been deleted and replaced by an advertisement. This change was made without any communication or consultation with our family.
“Although we appreciate that hackers have recognized their inability to inform us, this reveals a broader problem: a significant lack of collaboration between the organization and on deeply personal and historically significant questions for us and the fans.
“The effusion of the support of Pittsburgh fans and across the country was overwhelming and deeply appreciated. It is clear that our father’s inheritance continues to inspire and unite people, not only for his achievements on the ground, but for the integrity and compassion he has demonstrated.
“We have always been open to the creation of a sincere and lasting partnership with the pirates, a based on respect and shared values. Our hope is that this moment is used for reflection, opening the way to a more thoughtful, transparent and collaborative relationship to go ahead. I intend to stretch the hackers directly to explore this further.”

After the controversy has percolated, the president of the Pirates Travis Williams published the following declaration on the Clement wall on Sunday and the decision to delete one of the signs honoring Clemente:
“We did not intend to disrespect the inheritance of Roberto Clemente by adding advertising to the PAD in the right field.
“When we added advertising to the PAD, it was surveillance not to keep the logo n ° 21. It is ultimately on me, no one else in the organization. It was an honest error.
“We will add logo n ° 21 to the pad.
“We have used this area for advertisements for many years. When we did not have a sponsor out of Covid, we added an additional element in 2022 to honor Roberto’s inheritance. It was a replica of the signaling of the three rivers honoring him.
“This is added to the many elements of the whole stadium which honor its inheritance, including the fact that the wall is named Roberto Clemente Wall, measures 21 feet high and two n ° 21.
“We want to make sure that the Clemente family understands that we had no lack of respect for their father. We are impatient to continue our relationship with the Clemente family and apologize for our fans for our honest error.”
Clemente, who has spent his entire 18 -year -old career with the pirates, had exactly 3,000 strokes, won an MVP prize, won 15 stars and won 12 gold gloves. He also won a pair of World Series rings with Pittsburgh and was appointed MVP of the World Series in 1971. Clemente died tragically in an airplane accident on the evening of the New Year 1972 while he was on a humanitarian mission in Nicaragua. He was posthumously inducted into the baseball renowned temple in 1973 by special election.
