Neighbors told ABC7 Chicago that four of them were the couple’s children.

“When you find out these are people you’ve known for many years, it hits a little harder,” neighbor David Moreno said. “Losing your family in a split second like that won’t be easy for anyone.”

“I understand one of the older girls had a friend with them,” Moreno added. “I know it’s going to be devastating to the community just to know that was someone people knew.”

Lauren Dobosz’s colleague Kenny Felton said she started working at Lulu’s Gaming in Rolling Meadows two months ago and described her as creative and always ready to help.

“She loved her children and her husband,” Felten said. “It was his life.

“He’s going to have a tough road ahead of him when he finds out what happened and wishes them all the best, and whatever we can do, we’ll be there for them,” he added.

Other neighbors along Owl Drive in Rolling Meadows told FOX 32 Chicago the kids were always saying hello.

They said the couple were caring for elderly grandparents who had lived in the Owl Drive home for some time.

Investigators are working to determine why Fernandez was moving in the wrong direction in the fatal crash that led to another collision.

A tractor-trailer struck another tractor-trailer when it came to a sudden stop to let a medical helicopter land, officials said. A trailer on one of the trucks was damaged and boxes were strewn across the highway. One person was slightly injured.
