Photos: Clashes during pro-Palestinian protests on California campuses

Police moved into UCLA’s pro-Palestinian encampment Thursday morning, dismantling tents, chasing away most protesters and arresting more than 200 people.

The operation follows two days of upheaval that began when UCLA declared the camp “illegal” and continued when a mob attacked the camp Tuesday evening, with police taking hours to end the violence .

The Westwood campus became the first in the University of California system to oppose an encampment. Others have been installed on UC campuses in Berkeley, Riverside and Irvine, as well as at colleges and universities across the country, including Cal Poly Humboldt.

At USC, campus access remains limited to students, faculty, staff and registered guests after more than a week of protests against the war between Israel and Hamas.
