Phillies’ Bryce Harper helps promote high school senior

Bryce Harper helped a high school student achieve his dream.

Harper showed up at Jake Portella, a senior at Haddonfield Memorial High School in New Jersey, to make his dream proposal to classmate Giulia.

“Oh my God, Bryce Harper is at the door,” Giulia said as she opened the door, “I’m going to cry.”

“Hi, Giulia,” Harper says with a laugh from the doorway. “Jake wants to ask you to the prom, so I thought I’d help him out and see if you wanted to go to the prom with him. So, will you go to the prom with him?

Giulia quickly replied “Yes!” » and immediately hugged the Phillies slugger.

“Oh my God, you’re the GOAT,” she said before hugging her prom date.

Giulia’s father also intervened at that moment, shaking Harper’s hand.

The scene quickly unfolded: Portella told “The Phantastic Sports Show” Monday that he lived in Harper’s neighborhood and took his shot with the first baseman before taking his shot with Giulia.

“I knocked on his door, he seemed nice at first, then he said, ‘Can I get your email so we can plan this?’ and as I was leaving he said ‘Why don’t we do this now,'” Jake told the Fox29 show. “I didn’t expect (Harper) to open the door in the first place.”

The results are a prom date, a viral moment, a memory that will last a lifetime for the two high schoolers – and their home run hitting friend.

Harper will need to get updates on the Haddonfield Memorial High School prom, scheduled for June 14, from Portella after the fact.

The Phillies, who have a 34-14 National League record, will be busy that day in Baltimore to face the Orioles.
