Philadelphia Eagles 2024 Schedule: Takeaways, Predictions

PHILADELPHIA — The Eagles’ 2024 schedule was released Wednesday along with the rest of the NFL roster.

Former Giants running back Saquon Barkley will make his return to the New York area on October 20 as the Eagles take on the G-Men at MetLife Stadium in what promises to be a spicy matchup. More drama could arise if a playoff spot or postseason positioning is on the line when these teams face off again in the regular season finale at Lincoln Financial Field.

The Eagles earned a Week 5 bye, which is never ideal. It will be a long journey from mid-October until the end of the season. The toughest stretch might be Weeks 10-13, with road games against the Cowboys, Rams and Ravens. This is offset by a friendlier end to the season in which the Eagles play four of their final five games at home.

The biggest takeaway

It’s not quite the challenge of a season ago — when the Eagles’ schedule was the toughest in football, according to ESPN analytics — but the 2024 sked definitely has some teeth. They will face six teams that reached the playoffs last season: the Ravens, Cowboys, Bucs, Browns, Rams and Packers – against whom they will open in Brazil. There are also a few opponents on the roster that could bounce back this season, including the Bengals, Jaguars and Kirk Cousins-led Falcons. After a late-season collapse, it’s important for Philadelphia to get off to a good start to build some confidence as it navigates a roster with few give-and-takes.

Revenge game

In Week 4, the Eagles return to Tampa Bay, where their 2023 campaign ended unceremoniously. The Bucs beat Philly 32-9 in the playoff round. The dysfunction had fully set in by that point in the season and was evident by the Eagles’ lackluster, disjointed performance on both sides of the ball that led to the team’s sixth loss in seven games. There’s no compensation for a playoff loss in the regular season, but perhaps a Tampa Bay win will serve as a sign that the Birds are back on track.

Bold prediction

Both games against the Giants will be must-see TV. It’s been a lopsided series as of late, with the Eagles winning 13 of the last 16 games against New York. It took the wind out of one of football’s best rivalries. But the juice is back thanks to Barkley’s move from New York to Philadelphia. It will be electric in both stadiums every time he touches the ball. Add in that the Giants roster looks improved overall and you have the makings of some lively and competitive matchups between division foes.
