Foden said: “Winning this award is an achievement that I am extremely proud of.

“The Premier League is recognized as the greatest league in the world and it’s a pleasure to have been nominated along with so many other great players who have all had special seasons for their clubs.

“Overall, I am very happy with the way I played this season and very happy that I was able to contribute with goals and assists throughout the season.

“I would like to thank all the City staff, the coaches and especially my teammates because without them this would not be possible. And I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who voted for me, because this award means a lot .

Foden was nominated alongside his Man City teammate and last year’s winner Erling Haaland, as well as Arsenal duo Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice.

Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer were also nominated for the award.
