PGA Championship Round 4 live updates, standings: Schauffele holds round lead as DeChambeau, Hovland keep pace
It’s been a long time since a major championship produced a truly dramatic ending. It will take something special for anyone to win the 2024 PGA Championship.
Xander Schauffele, who held a share of the lead with Collin Morikawa to start the day, made four birdies on his front nine to take a two-shot lead over the field at the turn Sunday afternoon at Valhalla. Bryson DeChambeau and Viktor Hovland, however, continue to charge behind him. Morikawa, on the other hand, missed several birdies on the front nine.
There were 15 players five shots off the lead to start the day. While Schauffele is still in the lead as he seeks his first major title, there are still plenty of people capable of catching him.
Scottie Scheffler, who was arrested Friday morning off the course in Louisville, finished at 13 under for the week after posting a 6-under round to end the tournament.

Alex returns to solo lead role
Another little birdie putt for Alex and he comes back into the lead, -20. And the benefit could be a little bigger. He has more holes to work with than Hovland and DeChambeau.
Alex bounces
Nails by Xander Schauffele, who drained an 8-footer for birdie at 11 to get back into a tie for the lead.
Let’s be clear about something here: Yes, Schauffele has been in the lead for most of this tournament, but he’s not giving this thing away. He’s 4 under on his turn, it’s just that Hovland and DeChambeau are charging.
DeChambeau stays there
Bryson DeChambeau didn’t go for it on the short par-4 13th. Instead, he bombed his drive, leaving himself a short pitch that led to a short birdie that led to 18 under, one behind Hovland.
Behind him, however, Schauffele has a good look at birdie on the 11th.
Hovland in the lead
Viktor Hovland makes birdie after birdie. One in 13 curlers are their sixth of the day. That puts him at 19 under, sole possession of the lead.
Alex stumbles
Bryson saves par with a difficult back-and-forth at 12. Behind him at the par-5 10th, Schauffele found a trap on his drive, rough on his second, launched over the green to the fringe on his third, pitched short on his fourth, then missed a short putt for par. It’s a bit like giving back two on an accessible par 5.
Schauffele and Hovland are now tied at 18 under.
Meanwhile, Collin Morikawa still hasn’t found a red number. Another missed birdie putt at 10 makes it 10 straight pars. It would be great at the US Open, not so much on Sunday at Valhalla.
Hovland second alone
Viktor Hovland doesn’t let Schauffele get away. A dart to the green at 12 led to an 8-footer for birdie. He’s 18-under, one behind Alex.
Rory at 12
That’s it for Rory McIlroy this week. A birdie at 18 moves him to 12 under. It will probably be a top 15 finish, but the streak without a major continues.
