Pete Carroll: Raiders “working on” extension for Geno Smith, wants it in the long term

The raiders exchanged for Geno Smith with a long-term plan in place for the quarter. This involves signing Smith to a contract extension.

The Seahawks exchanged Smith to Raiders due to Smith’s financial expectations.

Smith is heading for the last year of his agreement, which is expected to win 31 million dollars this season, but raiders are negotiating with the performance of Smith.

“We are working on it,” said coach Pete Carroll during NFL annual meetings. “Yeah, we work there. G is delighted to start, start. It will be there when we are going to roll. But we work there.”

Carroll, who was with Smith for five of the six seattle seatons in Seattle, said Smith was not a quarter of the bridge. The raiders exchanged so that it was their long-term quarter.

“Yes, absolutely. I hope that’s how it will be,” said Carroll.

In the two seasons of Smith as a full-time leaving under Carroll, Smith went 17-15 with two pro Bowls, 7,906 overtaking yards, 50 affected and 20 interceptions.

Carroll knew when he had taken the position of the raiders, he wanted Smith as a quarterrière.

“It’s a great competitor,” said Carroll. “His conviction to believe in him is why he is who he is. That is why he has resisted all these challenges. He has succeeded, and he is ready to be at the top of the world. He can do anything in this game.”
