Peta targets the new runner of Mario Kart World, calling Nintendo to remove the nose ring from his cow character.
The playable cow is a first for the long -term series and quickly became a fans favorite since the beginnings of Mario Kart World. But the growing popularity of the character has also drawn the attention of people to the ethical treatment of animals.
Peta argues that the nose ring promotes real cruelty and that the Org wrote a letter addressed to the president of Nintendo Shuntaro Furukawa requiring modifications.
Nintendo said to remove the nose ring from the cow in Mario Kart World
In the letter, Peta pleaded with Nintendo to “show empathy towards bovines and remove the nose ring”.
“The brass ring in the nose of the cow shines on the real violence of the world and cruelty towards animals. This is why we ask you to give this beloved bovine a small but significant upgrade: to remove the nose ring and let the cow run freely – without painful reminders of the industries that treat animals as well as machines for profit. ”
Peta added that nose rings in the meat and dairy products are “used to exploit, control and even drag animals to death”, and closed his request with a blow to the Sega mascot: “Each animal is someone. So leave the rings to Sonic and let the cow breathe freely!
The animal rights group has history of targeting Nintendo titles. In 2021, Peta asked that his chicken mascot “not a nugget” be added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as DLC. A year earlier, they released an animal crossing: the “vegan guide” of New Horizons who discouraged fishing in the game because “fishing is harmful to animals and the planet”.
Other game studios have also been on Peta’s radar. In 2022, the organization called Sony Santa Monica to create a God of War Ragnarok mode without any animal violence.
Nintendo has not yet responded to Peta’s latest request, and for the moment, Cow’s emblematic nose ring remains in Mario Kart World on Switch 2.
