A Perry County man is in jail for attempted homicide after police said he shot a vehicle that passed him on Tuesday morning.
Newport State Police said Ashton Taylor, 30, of New Bloomfield, has been charged with attempted homicide, felony aggravated assault and common assault and custody. reckless danger of another person in connection with the incident at 6:15 a.m. Tuesday on Newport Road in Wheatfield Township.
Police said an 18-year-old man from Newport was driving east on Newport Road when he pulled up directly behind Taylor’s vehicle. The teenager was walking past Taylor, when police said Taylor fired a handgun at the teenager’s vehicle.
Police said the bullet went through the teenager’s rear passenger door, grazed the back of the driver’s seat and embedded in the driver’s side B-pillar directly behind where the teenager was sitting.
Taylor has been identified as a suspect, and he was arrested and brought to justice on Tuesday. The bond has been set at $ 25,000 in cash and Taylor remains in the Perry County Jail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 22.
