It was a turbulent week for staff upheavals at the Pentagon, and it’s only Thursday.
Three officials are on leave pending surveys on disclosed information, and a fourth was elected to resign because he did not want to be the number two of anyone. In addition to that, almost an entire team of 14 staff members resigned en masse after being sidelined by the Ministry of Government efficiency, or DOGE.
Here is where we see upheavals:
Senior pentagon officials have put on leave
Colin Carroll, chief of staff to the deputy secretary of defense Stephen Feinberg, Dan Caldwell, principal advisor to the Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and Darin Selnick, Deputy Staff of the Ministry of Defense, were all placed on administrative leave this week.
This development came in the midst of a wide and apparently chaotic survey on recent leaks.
Leaks included information related to the military plans for the Panama Canal, the Red Sea and a trip from Elon Musk to the Pentagon to discuss China and the information provided in the United States for Ukraine, Politico reported.
The Pentagon confirmed Thursday to Business Insider that Carroll, Caldwell and Selnick were all placed on administrative leave in the middle of the fallout. No other information has been provided.

Caldwell and Selnick have also been escorted outside the building for safety and saw access to the installation of the Pentagon revoked at the moment, Politico reported.
Leaks are not new to the Ministry of Defense and other federal agencies. Many government representatives disclose information on the press on bad decisions which, according to them, could be damaging. There have been repression in the past, but the Trump administration seems to take its response to a new level in movements that could have a scary effect on responsibility.
A senior public affairs official resigns
In addition to these upheavals, the spokesperson for Pentagon John Ulyot leaves after telling Politico that he had never planned to work under a more senior press secretary. Ulyot was the Top spokesperson until February; Then, the current press secretary, Sean Parnell, took over.
“I said to myself clearly to HegSeth Secretary before the inauguration that I was not interested in being number two for anyone in public affairs,” Ulyot told Politico.
“Last month, as this moment approaches, the secretary and I spoke and I could not conclude an agreement on another good adjustment for me to the DOD. So I informed it today that I will leave at the end of this week,” he said.
Ulyot supervised the controversial decisions to reorganize Pentagon’s press offices, and it was strongly involved in the defense of the deletion of web pages by the ministry considered “dei”.

A team chooses to eject
And then in addition to all this, the staff of the Digital Defense Service, the team in charge of technological development of the Pentagon, has almost entirely chosen to resign over the next month, Politico reported. The problem behind departures is forced non-allt.
“Either we die quickly, or we die slowly,” said Jennifer Hay, group director, in Politico.
“The reason we held it for as long as we did is that we thought we were going to be called,” said Hay about his team, but that doesn’t seem to have happened.
Hay, and other officials who spoke on condition of anonymity, explained that the decision to resign comes when Dog has taken over and eliminated similar government offices. The DDS should be absorbed by the chief of digital and artificial intelligence.
The Pentagon did not respond to BI when asked about the suspected consequences of so many DDS departures.
