Peninsula man arrested on suspicion of hate speech at Gaza ceasefire rally
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO — A man was arrested on suspicion of hate speech and other crimes during a pro-Gaza ceasefire rally held Monday in southern SAN FRANCISCO. San Francisco, according to police.
The incident occurred shortly after 6 p.m. at the intersection of El Camino Real and Chestnut Avenue, South San Francisco police said in a statement.
Citing witness statements, police said a 57-year-old South San Francisco man with “opposing views approached the group and made threats against a participant based on his membership.” perceived ethnicity.
The man then attacked some participants, lightly injuring them, according to police.
The suspect was arrested on site. Police said he was booked into the San Mateo County Jail on charges of battery, threats and hate speech.
