Camp officials Pendleton identified two navies deceased earlier this week in a reversal accident along the American-mexic border in New Mexico on Thursday.
Lance CPL. Albert Aguilera, 22, of Riverside, and Lance CPL. Marcelino Gamino, 28, from Fresno, died on Tuesday while supporting joint procedure of the Southern Border joint processing force, which was created in March as part of President Donald Trump’s border security initiatives, said officials.
Aguilera enlisted in March 2023 and was promoted to lance corporal in May 2024. Gamino enlisted in May 2022 and was promoted to spearcomp corporal in August 2024. Its decorations include the medal of the National Defense Service and the deployment of the maritime service. He deployed in Darwin, Australia, with the Marine-Darwin rotation force in 2024.
An unnamed third sailor was hospitalized in critical condition. said officials.
The three navies were combat engineers with a 1st combat engineer battalion, officials said.
The accident occurred around 8:50 am near the city of Santa Teresa, the working group said in a press release published on X. The Marines were on the way to El Paso, Texas, a spokesman said.
The Marines were taken to the El Paso University Medical Hospital, where Aguilar and Gamino died.
More details on the accident have not been published.
“The loss of Lance CPL. Aguilera and Lance CPL. Gamino is deeply felt by all of us,” said Lieutenant Marine, Colonel Tyrone A. Barrion, commander for the 1st battalion of combat engineer and the lobby. “I extend my sincere condolences and my prayers to the families of our fallen brothers.”
The Marine Expeditionary Force has been working along the border since January. The navies working along the border of San Diego mainly strengthened the existing American barriers with layers of concertina thread.
The sailors of the County of San Diego also patrolled in the border area by the sea, with USS Stockdale, a destroyer, taking up position.
