Pedestrian trying to cross street is hit, killed in Mira Mesa crash

A pedestrian attempting to cross a street outside a crosswalk in Mira Mesa was struck and killed by a driver of an SUV Monday evening, police said.

The collision was reported shortly before 7:40 p.m. at Mira Mesa Boulevard and Westview Parkway, San Diego police said.

The man, aged around 40, was crossing from north to south in an area where signs warn that pedestrians are prohibited from crossing, according to police.

He was struck by a 70-year-old driver of a Ford Expedition heading west on Mira Mesa Boulevard.

The victim suffered multiple injuries and was transported to hospital where he died.

Police said the driver was not suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The motorist was not injured and cooperated with traffic officers, police said.
