Pedestrian suffers life-threatening injuries after being hit by car in Chollas View

A 35-year-old pedestrian was struck by a car Sunday evening in the Chollas Creek neighborhood and suffered serious injuries, police said.

The man was crossing University Avenue southbound along the east side of 54th Street shortly before 10:30 p.m. when he was struck by a Toyota Camry driven by a 69-year-old man.

Police said the man entered the intersection of 54th Street and University Avenue on a green light, but halfway through the intersection he turned right and began crossing slantwise. He stepped in front of the Camry and was hit, police said.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he was treated for a brain hemorrhage, a fractured left fibula and a laceration to his liver, police said.

Police said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
