Union City – One person was killed and another was seriously injured in consecutive traffic collisions on Tuesday evening at Union City, the authorities.
The collisions took place around 8:50 p.m. on Dyer Street near Cabello Drive, the Union City police department said in a press release.
A driver initially struck a pedestrian, and when the driver went to check the well-being of the pedestrian, the driver and the pedestrian were struck by a second driver, the police said.
The police arrived to find the pedestrian and the first driver suffering from major injuries.
The pedestrian, an elderly woman, was declared dead on the scene. The County County Coroner office identified it as Evelyn Simangan, 81, of Union City.
Police said the first driver was taken to a hospital in the region, where he seemed to be in a stable state.
The second driver stopped on the scene and cooperated with the police investigation. Drivers did not seem to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
“The Union City police service understands that this is a tragic incident for all those involved and wishes to express our condolences to families affected by this incident,” the police said.
