Comcast announced on Tuesday that it would introduce a streaming package for its cable, broadband and mobile subscribers, linking Peacock, Netflix And Apple TV+ at a reduced rate.
The announcement, made Tuesday at the MoffettNathanson press conference in New York, comes as major media players increasingly join forces to drive value for users and subscriptions to streaming services.
On May 8, Disney And Discovery Warner Bros. announced a set of its streaming services – Disney+, Hulu and Max.
Comcast’s offering follows a similar model to several bundles of Verizon: Its streaming offering will be offered to existing Comcast subscribers, which could help support its pay TV subscribers.
The company lost 487,000 cable TV customers during the first quarter, Comcast announced in its April 25 earnings report. The company’s wireless business, however, saw its number of customers increase by 21%, to 6.9 million lines in total.
Comcast has not disclosed the price of the upcoming plan. Peacock subscription plans start at $5.99 per month, although that increases to $7.99 per month this summer. Comcast broadband customers typically get a discount on the company’s streaming service.
Netflix plans start at $6.99 per month and Apple TV+ costs $9.99 per month.
“We’ve been bringing video together successfully and creatively for 60 years,” Comcast CEO Brian Roberts said Tuesday. “And so this is the latest iteration of that. And I think it’s going to be a pretty compelling package.”
