Paul Scholes criticized a decision taken by Ruben Amorim in Manchester United – despite the Red Devils who recently reached the Europa League final.
The former Scholes team reached a global victory of 7-1 against Athletic Bilbao on Thursday, winning the second floor 4-1 in Old Trafford after having released 3-0 winners in Spain the previous week.
With the victory, they gave themselves a real qualification for the Champions League next season – themselves or his finalist colleagues Tottenham will do so by raising the Europa League.
This is something that United would not have achieved via the Premier League. Having needed to finish in the top five to do so, the Red Devils are currently 15th in the ranking and could still finish as low as 17th.
Amorim has often aligned a lower part in the Premier League to save its key players for Europe, with Bruno Fernandes on the bench for the defeat by Brentford the last time.
However, this was a mistake, according to Scholes. Writing for TNT Sports, the former midfielder suggested that the Amorim team should have thought more of the Premier League due to the nature of the competition.

“Manchester United should be able to play in two or three competitions both without sacrificing something,” wrote Scholes. “And they clearly sacrificed the League.
“I don’t like it and I don’t agree with it and I think there must be a kind of standards required in a Premier League team.
“It is almost as if they were going in the first league games and there is an acceptance that they would not win the match, which is madness.
There is also only one man to blame, according to Scholes. It was Amorim who appealed to sound the changes in the action of the League, United exchanging eight of Brentford’s defeat for the visit of Athletic Bilbao.
And Scholes made the whole accusation surrounding the united boss in his column – suggesting that he has no care for the results of the League.
“I think acceptance came from everyone,” continued Scholes. “I think it comes from the manager, even if he does not admit it.
“He does not play teams to win football matches in the League. I think even the fans think: “Let’s eliminate these league games because the league was a disaster”.
