Patrick Mahomes’ grandfather is in palliative care, the mother of the chiefs, Randi Mahomes, announced on Friday.
The news occurred just two days before the Chiefs welcomed the Bills in the AFC championship match on Sunday.
“My father is in a hospice and I am lost for the words,” Randi wrote on his Instagram story, including a photo of the father-daughter duo.
Randi previously shared articles on the fact that her father was not well last fall, but she did not disclose an exact diagnosis.
Mahomes and his wife Brittany have not yet publicly discussed the situation.
The couple adapts to life as a family of five while the triple champion of the Super Bowl hunts a third consecutive title with the chiefs.
The NFL has never won a team of three consecutive super bowls.
Mahomes and the Sports Illustrated Sports swimsuit model welcomed their third child, a second daughter, Golden Raye on January 12 during the chiefs of the chiefs as head of the AFC.
