A man is in custody after allegedly opening a door on a JetBlue flight leaving Boston’s Logan Airport for Puerto Rico Tuesday night, according to officials and news reports.
The passenger on the JetBlue flight opened an overwing exit “for unknown reasons” while the airplane was taxiing on the runway, a spokesperson for the company said.
JetBlue said the opening of the exit caused the emergency slide to deploy.
The flight, originally set to take off at 6:55 p.m., was delayed until 10:30 p.m., according to JetBlue’s flight tracker.
“The individual remained on board the aircraft, and Massachusetts State Police were called to the scene,” the spokesperson said. “JetBlue is working to get our customers on their way as quickly as possible.”
MassPort officials confirmed that a man attempted to open a door on the plane and said no one was injured. A spokesperson said that Massachusetts State Police responded to the plane at Terminal C.
State Police said in a statement that one person who “wanted to deplane” was detained following the disturbance, according to NBC Boston 10. The man, who was not identified, will most likely be arraigned on charges Wednesday, the news station said.
