Part of the border problem is that Congress grants ‘far too much discretion’ to the administration

On Friday’s “Fox & Friends” show on Fox News Channel, Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) said while the Biden administration’s immigration policies are terrible, part of the problem is that Congress has given “way too much discretion” to the executive on the issue of immigration since under the same law, “you could have Trump policies and Biden policies.” And Congress needs to assert more authority on the issue and impose stricter limits on the executive.
Gimenez said, [relevant remarks begin around 1:15] “We are going to look at how things are done across the administration. We can delve deeper into Secretary Mayorkas and what is happening on the southern border. Why did you change the policies? On purpose… no doubt. Look, you can’t be that stupid.
He added, “[T]The problem also lies – look, a bit has to be with the rules that we have put in place in Congress. In the same act, you could have Trump’s policies and Biden’s policies. This means that we left too much leeway to the administration. It’s a lesson I learned, being there as a freshman that, hey, we have to go back and say we want it done this way, not from here to here. Because they use the same law.
