The CISF took over the museum’s armed security in December 2019.

A paramilitary jawan was shot dead and several others injured after their colleague, a CISF officer, fired indiscriminately inside their barracks attached to the Indian Museum in Kolkata this evening.

The constable who used his service weapon to shoot his colleagues was disarmed and arrested by the police.

“The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. A CISF jawan was killed while another was seriously injured. We have arrested the accused,” said police commissioner Vineet Goyal.

He fired at a police car, injuring several officers, including the driver of the vehicle, sources said.

The Central Industrial Security Force or CISF took over the museum’s armed security in December 2019.

The museum, located in the heart of Kolkata, is an autonomous organization under the administrative control of the Union Ministry of Culture.
