Jasmine Paolini called the Partner Sara Errani a “legend” and an “inspiration” after having won the title of Double French Open Women.

Errani and Paolini beat Kazakh Anna Danilina and Serbian Aleksandra Krunic 6-4 2-6 6-1 on the court Philippe Chatrier.

The Italian duo won Olympic gold on the same court in Paris last summer and has now added a first Grand Slam title to their growing collection.

Paolini, 29, reached the female finals in single and double at the Open of France from last year but lost in the fourth round of this year.

“I would like to thank Sara,” said Paolini.

“It was his last single tournament here and I want to thank you very much. You are an inspiration for me.

“You are a big champion and a great person. You have made me a better player and it’s great to share these special moments with you. You are a legend.”

Errani, 38, previously said that it would be her last time to play singles at Roland Garros and that she finally lost in the second qualification round.

She had already completed the double career in doubles – each winning the four majors and Olympic gold – but now has six Grand Chelem titles in her name, including two at the Open of France.

Errani also won the title of mixed double alongside compatriot Andrea Vavassori on Thursday.

“It’s the best courtyard in the world, I have the best memories here and it’s so special for me,” said Errani.

“Sometimes you don’t appreciate it 100% because you can’t stop and feel it, but for the moment I feel it.

“I try to achieve what we do and it’s so big. Winning a big home is such a great thing.”

The second seeded Errani and Paolini had not dropped a set en route to the final, but were taken the distance by Danilina and Krunic.

Errani and Paolini broke out for an advance of 4-2 in the first set, but Danilina and Krunic struck directly, restoring parity with a break that is specific to the fifth attempt.

The Italians finished a 55 -minute set with a breakdown in service in the 10th match, reporting another routine victory could be on the cards.

But Danilina and Krunic went out by fighting, winning two breaks to climb on the board and force a decision maker.

This momentum was quickly eliminated, however, when Krunic and Danilina were each broken in their first service games and their Italian rivals rushed to the finish line.
