Islamabad: To address Pakistan’s poor economic situation, Minister of State for Petroleum Musadik Malik announced on Monday that Russia would supply gasoline and diesel to Pakistan at reduced rates.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Malik said Russia will export crude oil to Pakistan as well as diesel and gasoline at reduced tariffs, which is good news for the country’s economy. , reported ARY News.
“The Russian visit remained more fruitful than expected,” Malik said.
“Russia will give Pakistan the same discount it gives the world on oil and gasoline,” he added.
It comes a month after Pakistani Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said the country was considering buying Russian oil at a discount. Later, Malik flew to Russia last week for talks on issues such as oil and gas supply.
Pakistan’s government under Shehbaz Sharif is failing to meet domestic gas supply needs as winter approaches while struggling to contain a current account deficit swollen by energy payments, mainly for oil, a reported Dawn.
