Pakistan unveils 15-member squad led by Babar Azam for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024

Babar Azam will lead the Pakistan team in their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in West Indies and USA starting June 2. After recovering from injury, speedster Haris Rauf was included in the 15-member Pakistan squad along with star batsman Babar Azam, who was given the captaincy.

Rauf had suffered a shoulder injury during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in February 2024, has since recovered and shown promising form in training sessions, according to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

While Rauf’s inclusion could strengthen Pakistan’s bowling attack, the absence of pacer Hasan Ali stands out, who was likely replaced by Rauf. Other notable debutants in the team include Abrar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Saim Ayub and Usman Khan.

“This team possesses a blend of youthful exuberance and seasoned experience. With players who have been playing together for some time now, we believe they are well prepared and cohesive,” PCB said in a statement.

Saim Ayub is likely to open alongside Muhammad Rizwan, with Babar Azam positioned at one point. Pakistan have not named any reserves for the World Cup squad, showing the team’s confidence in their selection.

Pakistan kicks off its T20 World Cup 2024 campaign against the United States on June 6 in Dallas.
