An Oxnard man who served time in the late 1980s for sexual assault on children was sentenced to life to life on Monday after the prosecutors said that he had spent almost a decade after his release of sexual assault by two young children in his family.
A jury last month acknowledged Marcelino Arias Arias, 68, guilty of six accusation of obscene crimes on a child. The jury also considered true a special allegation according to which there were several victims, according to the office of the County Prosecutor of Ventura.
Judicial files show that CARA admitted other special allegations concerning a prior conviction for agricultural attack, which contributed to its long punishment. Prosecutors say that the Arca was found guilty of sexual assault for children in 1988, but did not provide details on this case.
“Decades ago, this accused went to prison for sexually abusing a child. When he was given a second chance, he chose not to change – he rather sexually abused two other children, this time in his own family, “said the senior member. Atty. Ben Moreno said in a statement. “This sentence reflects the serious and lasting damage that he caused and sends a clear message that the sexual abuses on children will not be tolerated, in particular by recurrences.”
Arca was arrested in 2022 after the authorities said they had abused two children under the age of 14 between 2005 and 2014. The abuses were only revealed when the two victims reported it to a family member for years later, prosecutors said.
“I applaud the two victims for their extraordinary courage to manifest themselves and to face their attacker,” said Moreno. “Due to their bravery, this accused will never have the opportunity to harm a child again.”
