A common drug used in the treatment of urinary tract infections may include a risk of cancer, according to a recent study.

“Phenazopyridine hydrochloride is reasonably planned as a human carcinogen based on sufficient evidence of carcinogenicity from studies in experimental animals”, the Report.
According to the independent, the drug is frequently used in urinary tract infection drugs and has been used for decades.
However, it is not approved by the Food and Drug Administration of the United States, and it usually has a warning label by noting its risk of cancer.
The drug was also listed by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Service as a dangerous substance in 2001, according to The Independent.
