“Outer Range” dethroned in Amazon Prime Video’s top 10 by a new show

Tracking the Amazon Prime Video Top 10 list is very different from Netflix since there is less content and the big shows tend to stick around. forever. But something a little interesting happened there, as Outer Range’s return for season 2 slides down the list and behind two other offerings.

Outer Range is now in third place behind Blue Angels, the Glen Powell-adjacent documentary about the famous flying team, and Fallout, back in first place despite debuting on April 10, a month and a half ago now.

Outer Range actually debuted at #1, and season 2 was better reviewed than the first with a 92% critic score and 85% audience score, compared to 79% critic and 62% audience score. audience ratings for season 1. That’s a pretty significant improvement.

My first thought here was that this might move down the list if there was only a two-episode premiere and people were done with it. But it actually dropped all seven new episodes at once in an overkill version, which is exactly what Fallout did. This is perhaps the novelty of Amazon, which targets Netflix more directly (season 4 of The Boys does not do this, however).

Fallout, meanwhile, continues to be one of Amazon Prime Video’s most-watched series, behind Rings of Power. Amazon reported that it had 65 million viewers in its first 16 days, and that figure has since risen to 80 million, setting non-Netflix records in Nielsen ratings. It’s a deeply impressive performance, and given that a show like Reacher stays in Amazon’s top 10 for months, Fallout will be around for a very long time. Although I think we know for a fact that season 4 of The Boys is going to arrive and take that spot when it arrives on June 13, in just over two weeks.

The rest of the combined list includes films like Anne Hathaway’s The Idea of You and Jake Gyllenhaal’s Road House. Maxton Hall Preparatory School’s new low-key show, which also ranks fifth on the list, is also doing quite well.

Fallout has obviously been given the green light for Season 2, and I’d probably expect 4-5 seasons of the series initially with essentially endless material at its disposal and Amazon dying for big hits to take on its rivals. They definitely found one. External scope? We’ll see if it works well enough to have a season 3 here, but I’m not sure yet.
