The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences aligned its Oscar nominations for original songs Thursday morning. Read by Saturday eveningit’s Rachel Sennott and WickedBowen Yang, the duo announced the five slots for “El Mal” and “Mi Camino” Emilie Pérez“The Journey” of The Six Triple Eight“Like a bird” by Sing Sing, “Never too late” Elton John: never too late.
While this isn’t the first time the Oscars have forgone performances in the Original Song category, one of the biggest surprises was announced a day before the nominations were revealed by Academy CEO Bill Kramer, and President Janet Yang. In a letter sent to Academy members, the two detailed plans to honor the city of Los Angeles following the devastation caused by recent wildfires. Instead, the show will spotlight the musicians and their creative teams through personal reflections and inspirations for their nominated songs.
